Teach Like a Renegade

Here it is.  My call to all edu-professionals to provide opportunities that end in more than a marble roller coaster, a vehicle that can protect an egg, or a tower made from spaghetti and marshmallows.   Let’s walk away from those and move toward a higher purpose.  Let’s be rebels for positive change. Let’s teach like renegades.

Dad’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there. You’ve got a tough job and the children in your life need you more than ever.  My Dad passed away years ago but I still think of him several times each day. I wonder what he would look like now.  What would he be doing in his retirement?  I wish my children could have known him. I think he would enjoy seeing the young adults that they’re becoming. I think about how much I wanted to be like my Dad and how I longed to make him proud.  Dads, enjoy your children,  show them that you love them, tell them how proud you are of them, honor the woman that helped you become a father and have a super day.

Summertime

It’s most likely day 8ish of summer and, as you can see, I’ve just about completely lost my sense of time and date.  It’s awesome!  This summer promises to be a bit more relaxing than last year and I’m glad for that.  The days out of the classroom give me time to catch up on projects that have bore the brunt of procrastination for 180 days, enjoy time with my own growing children (how did they become teenagers so fast?) and reflect on a great school year.  I raise my glass of sweet tea (or Cheerwine) to you this summer and I hope you’re loosing track of time too.

Hi

My name is Sean.  I’m a teacher with a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) and a zest for promoting empathy.  In my class, STEM is the lens that all content is viewed through and empathy is infused in all we do.  Combining the terms seemed like a fun, fitting title for this ‘blog. This is a space that I use to imagine, plan, create and reflect.  Views are my own, unless otherwise noted.
